Nothing Outside You Keeps You Safe

Practical Wisdom: Living 5D in a 3D World
Integrating higher consciousness into everyday life—one miracle at a time!
Beloved,
Two weeks ago, I spent a few days looking like a squirrel who had stored walnuts in my cheeks.
Dental implant surgery has a way of rearranging your priorities.
I didn't teach classes.
I didn't coach.
I was icing my face, eating mashed potatoes, and trying to remember what it felt like to smile without my jaw protesting.
But something unexpected happened while I sat in the dentist's chair.
As tears rolled down my face, the dentist kept asking if I was okay.
I couldn't answer.
My mouth was held open with dental equipment, and she assumed I was crying because I was in pain.
I wasn't.
I was overwhelmed by gratitude.
I could feel the love of my family...
the prayers of my students...
the kindness of my dentist...
the care of my healing team...
the friends checking in...
the people who genuinely wanted me well.
In that moment, I experienced something profound.
My peace wasn't coming from healthy teeth.
It was coming from remembering Love.
That realization stayed with me throughout the week, and then it came alive during our Advanced ACIM class in a way I hadn't expected.
We were studying a deceptively simple section of A Course in Miracles entitled:
"To Have Peace, Teach Peace to Learn It."
At first glance, it sounds like another beautiful spiritual idea.
But hidden inside this lesson is one of the greatest obstacles to peace.
Not fear.
Not guilt.
Not even forgiveness.
Attachment.
What Are You Really Holding On To?
Most of us think our suffering comes from what is happening around us.
The Course gently suggests something very different.
Our suffering comes from believing that something outside ourselves is necessary before we can be at peace.
Pause for a moment and ask yourself:
What do I believe I need before I can finally relax?
More money?
A healthier body?
A relationship?
Recognition?
Enlightenment?
The right political outcome?
A different job?
A certain number in my retirement account?
A particular person behaving differently?
The ego quietly whispers:
"Once you have that... then you'll be safe."
The Holy Spirit whispers something entirely different:
"Beloved... you already are."
The Safety Net We Invent
During class, each of us unknowingly revealed our own version of the same lesson.
One student realized she believed her possessions represented security.
Another recognized she thought traveling to North Carolina would finally bring peace.
Another laughed about his attachment to tools.
I shared how, during my divorce years ago, I had to walk away from a beautiful lake house, financial comfort, and the life I thought guaranteed my security.
Different stories.
Same lesson.
Every one of us was asking the exact same question:
Where does my safety actually come from?
That question changes everything.
Because once we answer it honestly, we begin to see the ego's strategy.
It doesn't care what you become attached to.
It simply wants you to believe your peace depends on something outside yourself.
The Irritation Is Never the Problem
There is one sentence we repeatedly circle back to.
The irritation is always the invitation.
Think about that.
Every irritation points to an attachment.
Someone criticizes you.
Why does it hurt?
Something changes unexpectedly.
Why does it upset you?
A financial expense appears.
Why does it create fear?
The irritation itself isn't the problem.
It's simply revealing the belief underneath.
Every uncomfortable moment lovingly asks:
"What are you believing you need in order to be okay?"
That question isn't meant to condemn us.
It's meant to free us.
The Great Reversal
The Course says one of the Holy Spirit's very first lessons is to undo the "getting" concept.
The ego says:
"Getting more makes me safer."
The Holy Spirit says:
"Letting go reveals you always were."
Notice the difference.
The Course isn't asking us to become minimalists.
It isn't asking us to give away our homes, empty our bank accounts, or throw out everything we own.
It's asking something much deeper.
If those things disappeared tomorrow...
Would your peace disappear with them?
That is the real question.
Walking the Talk
One of the students beautifully admitted,
"I'm having a fit with this."
I smiled because that kind of honesty is priceless.
The Holy Spirit never asks us to pretend.
The ego says:
"Hide your fear."
The Holy Spirit says:
"Bring your fear into the Light."
Every pity party...
Every moment of frustration...
Every anxious thought...
Every burst of anger...
is simply another opportunity to discover what belief still needs healing.
That is why honesty is one of the greatest spiritual practices.
Not because God needs it.
Because freedom does.
Trust Has No Safety Net
I realized something while reflecting on my own journey.
Leaving my marriage wasn't really about leaving a marriage.
It was about discovering what I believed kept me safe.
The lake house wasn't the issue.
The money wasn't the issue.
The lifestyle wasn't the issue.
The attachment was.
The ego kept whispering:
"Behave, stay quiet, and you'll keep everything."
The Holy Spirit gently asked:
"Is that freedom?"
The answer was obvious.
No amount of comfort is worth surrendering your peace.
No possession can replace your freedom.
No external security can equal inner trust.
The Adventure of Remembering
This is where our spiritual journey quietly changes.
Healing teaches us to notice the ego.
Remembering teaches us to trust God.
Healing asks:
"What belief is causing my suffering?"
Remembering asks:
"If God already created me safe... why am I still searching for safety?"
That is a very different question.
And perhaps...
it is the beginning of true freedom.
Integration in Daily Life
The next time something disturbs your peace, resist the temptation to ask,
"Why is this happening to me?"
Instead, gently ask yourself:
"What am I believing I need in order to be okay?"
Then ask one more question.
"If God already created me completely safe... what am I trying to protect?"
Don't rush the answer.
Simply sit with it.
The Holy Spirit has an extraordinary way of revealing what the ego has been hiding all along.
Lainaism
"Every irritation reveals the attachment you're still calling safety."
Closing Transmission
Beloved,
God has never asked you to prove your faith by giving everything away.
He simply invites you to discover that none of those things were ever holding you up.
Your peace has never depended on your health...
your bank account...
your possessions...
your diplomas and titles...
your relationships...
or even your spiritual understanding.
Those things may enrich your experience.
But they cannot become its foundation.
Your foundation was established long before this world appeared.
It has never cracked.
Never weakened.
Never been threatened.
The more deeply you remember that...
the less tightly you cling.
And the less tightly you cling...
the more naturally you trust.
And trust quietly opens the door to the peace that was waiting for you all along.
Because, Beloved...
nothing outside you has ever been keeping you safe.
God already is.
Relax,
