There comes a moment on this path where the teachings stop feeling like inspiration… and start feeling like a confrontation.
Not with the world.
Not with other people.
But with the identity you’ve been living as.
Because if A Course in Miracles is taken seriously—if it is truly practiced—it leads to one unavoidable realization:
You have given the world authority over you.
Not because the world took it.
But because you believed it belonged there.
You believed the body defines you.
You believed other people can affect your peace.
You believed institutions, systems, and experts know more than you do about your life, your safety, your future.
And from that belief… a life is built.
A life of managing, navigating, reacting, protecting.
A life that feels real.
Convincing.
Sometimes overwhelming.
But not true.
Lesson 162 brings us face-to-face with a statement so simple… it can feel almost dismissible:
"I am as God created me."
Yet within that statement is the undoing of everything false.
Because if you are as God created you—
then you are not a body.
You are not limited.
You are not vulnerable.
You are not subject to the authority of the world.
You are consciousness.
You are the awareness in which the entire experience appears.
And from that awareness, something radical becomes possible:
You stop negotiating with illusions.
You stop asking the world to behave in a way that allows you to feel okay.
You stop waiting for conditions to improve so that you can finally relax into peace.
Instead, you recognize:
Peace was never dependent on the world to begin with.
This is where the “authority problem” quietly dissolves.
Because the need for external authority only exists
as long as you believe you are something small, something separate, something in need of protection.
But the moment you begin to accept—even gently—that you are not what you thought you were…
The entire structure shifts.
You begin to listen differently.
Not to louder voices.
Not to more convincing arguments.
But to the quiet guidance within you.
The Holy Spirit, as the Course describes it, does not control you.
It does not override you.
It simply sees clearly.
It sees the whole picture where you have been focused on fragments.
And when you begin to trust that guidance—
not perfectly, but honestly—
you start to experience something unexpected:
Relief.
Not because the world has changed…
but because you are no longer trying to manage it from a false identity.
You begin to live from a different center.
One that does not need to defend.
One that does not need to prove.
One that does not need to be right.
Just one that knows.
And from that knowing… life becomes lighter.
Not because circumstances are perfect,
but because you are no longer looking to them for your identity.
This is the shift.
Not from struggle to perfection.
But from illusion to truth.
And truth does not require effort to maintain.
It simply requires willingness to accept.
Integration in Daily Life
Today, notice where you are still giving authority away.
- Where are you waiting for someone else to decide how you feel?
- Where are you believing something outside of you has control over your peace?
- Where are you reacting instead of remembering?
When you notice it, pause.
And gently return to this:
Nothing outside of me has power over me.
I am as God created me.
Not as a forceful correction…
but as a quiet remembering.
Let that be enough.

You are not here to become something greater.
You are here to remember
what has never been diminished.
The world may continue to move,
to shift,
to present images that seem convincing…
But none of it has the authority to define you.

Let the movement be.
And come back… again and again…
to the still point within you.
The place where truth is not argued—
it is known.
You are safe there.
You are whole there.
You are free there.
Because you are…
and have always been…
as God created you.
