Integrating higher consciousness into everyday life—one miracle at a time
Hi Beloved,
If you’ve been anywhere near social media lately, you might have seen the stir around the recent American Eagle ad featuring Sydney Sweeney. She’s photographed in a pair of jeans, with the tagline: “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”
Seems harmless enough—until some folks decided she wasn’t talking about denim at all, but about “great genes,” and spun it into a supposed white supremacist dog whistle referencing Nazi-era eugenics.
Now, I’m not here to talk about fashion advertising strategy. I’m here to talk about what you and I know to be true, and how ACIM shines light on what’s really going on.
1 — We’ve All Got Great Genes
Whether you’re wearing Levi’s, American Eagle, or pajama pants, your true “jeans” have nothing to do with DNA.
You are as God created you.
You are made in the image of Love Itself.
You are far greater than what your blue jean britches can contain.
ACIm Lesson 94: “I am as God created me.”
ACIM Lesson 162: “I am as God created me. His Son can suffer nothing. And I am His Son.”
If we remembered this, we would know that our worth is not stitched into the seams of our clothing or hidden in a genetic code—it’s eternal, changeless, and shared.
2 — Why Some People See a Problem That Isn’t There
The loudest reactions to this ad are a perfect example of projection. ACIM tells us:
Lesson 6: “I am upset because I see something that is not there.”
Lesson 8: “My mind is preoccupied with past thoughts.”
When someone sees an ad and instantly interprets it through the lens of personal or collective trauma, they are not wrong to acknowledge their pain—but the ad didn’t cause it. Their mind is replaying an old wound, perhaps one from growing up feeling “not enough,” “not beautiful,” or “flawed” in some way.
This is why ACIM reminds us to pause and ask: Am I seeing the present as it is, or am I dragging the past into it?
3 — The Door to Deeper Conversations
Once the Nazi-era eugenics conversation entered the chat, the discussion took on another layer.
For many, this is where fear and discomfort set in, because this touches on truths and half-truths that have been kept in shadows—sometimes labeled “conspiracy theory,” sometimes buried under official history.
But here’s the thing:
We can’t heal what we won’t look at.
We can’t shine light on what we insist stays in the dark.
In ACIM terms, the ego thrives in secrecy.
"What you hide from yourself is hidden from the Holy Spirit’s healing.” (T-14.VII.2)
By bringing hidden fears, histories, and even controversial topics into open, compassionate awareness, we take away the ego’s playground and invite healing. Maybe its time we discuss Nazi-era eugenics.
Practice for the Week
When you feel triggered by a headline, a meme, or even a pair of jeans, pause and ask:
- Am I seeing this as it is, or am I projecting my past onto it?
- What would this look like if I remembered everyone has “great genes” as God created them?
Remember: Your peace doesn’t come from the world not offending you.
It comes from your choice to see with Christ’s vision instead of the ego’s lens.
