When Joy Arrives Without Drama

Practical Wisdom: Living 5D in a 3D World
Integrating higher consciousness into everyday life—one miracle at a time!
Beloved,
Christmas morning unfolded exactly as expected.
The familiar rhythm.
The grandchildren.
The wrapping paper.
The warmth of tradition.
I knew I would speak to my son, Spencer, later that day. That was the plan. And I was content with it.
When it came time to open my gift from Lauren, her husband, and the grandkids, she casually said she needed to go out to the garage to get it. Nothing unusual. No hint. No anticipation. Just another moment in a sweet, ordinary morning.
And then the door opened.
Spencer walked in.
What surprised me most wasn’t that he was there—it was how I received him.
There was joy. Deep joy.
But it wasn’t loud.
It wasn’t dramatic.
It didn’t rush through my body like adrenaline.
It was calm.
Peaceful.
Settled.
Like recognition rather than surprise.
We hugged—one of those long, full-body embraces where nothing needs to be said. And when I met Gina, his girlfriend, that too felt beautifully simple. Natural. Matter-of-fact in the most loving way. No emotional spike. No nervous energy. Just presence meeting presence.
Later, I learned what their journey had required.
They had left Atlanta at 2:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
Traveled on a redeye flight to arrive Thursday morning—Christmas Day, just to surprise me.
And from that moment until they fly back on Tuesday, December 30, what is unfolding is not a planned visit, but a living one.
Long conversations that arose on their own.
Laughter without agenda.
Listening without fixing.
Connection without performance.
Nothing was orchestrated.
Nothing was extracted.
Nothing needed to be “made meaningful.”
And that, I realized, is the miracle.
There was a time in my life when a moment like this would have stirred old patterns—expectation, emotional charge, stories about what it meant, how long it would last, and how I could control what was unfolding. But that old mother identity has been lovingly unlearned.
What remains is availability.
I wasn’t trying to capture the moment.
I wasn’t using it to confirm my worth.
I wasn’t holding it too tightly or bracing for its end.
I was simply present.
As I sat with the quiet perfection of these days, I was reminded of a passage from A Course in Miracles, Chapter 15, Section XI, Paragraph 10—a passage that feels like a benediction for this moment in my life and for the year now being born:
This is the time in which a new year will soon be born from the time of Christ. I have perfect faith in you to do all that you would accomplish. Nothing will be lacking, and you will make complete and not destroy. Say, then, to your brother: I give you to the Holy Spirit as part of myself. I know that you will be released, unless I want to use you to imprison myself. In the name of my freedom I choose your release, because I recognize that we will be released together. So will the year begin in joy and freedom. There is much to do, and we have been long delayed. Accept the holy instant as this year is born, and take your place, so long left unfulfilled, in the Great Awakening. Make this year different by making it all the same. And let all your relationships be made holy for you. This is our will. Amen.
— T-15.XI.10:1–14
This passage names what I felt without needing to explain it.
Joy without drama.
Freedom without distance.
Love without the need to bind or be bound.
The new year won't begin with resolutions.
It will expand with peace.
And before I close, I want to say this plainly and with deep gratitude:
The greatest gift I have ever received—the one that has made peace and freedom my normal—has been learning to become more Christ-like in my thinking, my relationships, and my way of being. That gift came through Jesus, and through the teachings of A Course in Miracles, which have patiently and lovingly retrained my mind away from fear and toward Love. Away from ego and toward God.
I offer that credit humbly and with reverence, because where peace is found, gratitude naturally follows.
With love and quiet joy,
