The Earthquake That Could Not Shake Heaven

Practical Wisdom: Living 5D in a 3D World
Integrating higher consciousness into everyday life—one miracle at a time!
Beloved,
"Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God." — A Course in Miracles
Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela last week.
Buildings collapsed.
Lives changed forever.
Families waited anxiously as rescue teams searched through mountains of concrete and twisted steel. Countries around the world immediately responded, sending firefighters, medical teams, engineers, food, water, and hope. I watched parents hand their babies through narrow openings in the rubble to complete strangers. I watched exhausted rescuers work around the clock to reach one more survivor.
As we watched the footage during the Healing Projections through Current Events class in the Awareness Academy, we found ourselves asking a different question.
Not...
What collapsed?
But...
What couldn't?
That question changed everything.
Most news stories focus on the destruction. The ego is fascinated by what falls apart. It wants us to count the losses, predict the next disaster, and convince ourselves that safety can only be found if we can somehow control the uncontrollable.
The Holy Spirit asks a different question.
What remains when everything you thought was solid begins to shake?
The truth is, every one of us has lived through an earthquake.
Perhaps yours wasn't measured on the Richter Scale.
Maybe it was a divorce.
A diagnosis.
The loss of someone you loved.
A financial collapse.
A betrayal.
A dream that suddenly came crashing down.
The details may differ, but the experience is remarkably similar.
Something we thought would always be there... wasn't.
Something we built our identity upon... collapsed.
Looking back over my own life, I can clearly see the earthquakes that reshaped me. Divorce dismantled the future I thought I was building. Financial losses shook my belief that security could be found in possessions. My son's drug addiction made it clear that I had no control over my children. Each earthquake exposed another identity my ego had quietly constructed.
At the time, each one felt devastating.
Today, I see them differently.
Because every earthquake asked me the same question:
Who are you when what you built disappears?
That is the real spiritual journey.
A scientist explained that the Venezuelan earthquakes caused such tremendous damage because they were shallow. Their energy reached the surface almost undiluted.
I couldn't help but smile.
Isn't that exactly how the ego builds?
Shallow identities.
"I am my career."
"I am my marriage."
"I am my bank account."
"I am my reputation."
"I am my body."
They appear solid...
until life begins to shake us to awaken us.
Then we discover they were never the foundation we imagined.
The Holy Spirit quietly whispers:
"Beloved...
Your peace was never built on the earth.
So why would it collapse with the earth?"
That whisper changes everything.
Because suddenly we realize the earthquake isn't exposing our weakness.
It's exposing where we've mistaken temporary forms for eternal Truth.
A Course in Miracles reminds us:
"Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists."
Buildings may fall.
Bodies may age.
Relationships may change.
Governments may rise and fall.
Economies may fluctuate.
The world itself may seem to tremble beneath our feet.
But there is something that has never shaken.
The earth may be shaking, but Heaven does not.
That doesn't mean we become indifferent.
Quite the opposite.
As we continued watching the news coverage, we noticed something far more powerful than the destruction.
We noticed the rescuers and first responders.
Firefighters risking their lives for strangers.
Doctors working without sleep.
Neighbors sharing food.
Countries sending aid.
Volunteers crawling through impossible spaces because someone they had never met might still be alive beneath the rubble.
The ego saw disaster.
Love saw an opportunity to serve.
And suddenly we realized something beautiful.
Perhaps the greatest miracle after an earthquake isn't the buildings that remain standing.
Perhaps it's the Love that rises from beneath the rubble.
Every disaster reveals it.
Humanity remembers itself.
We stop asking who belongs to which country, religion, political party, or social class.
We simply ask:
"Who needs help?"
Isn't that what Jesus has been teaching us all along?
"I am here only to be truly helpful."
Perhaps this is ascension's final exam—not whether we can prevent the earth from shaking, but whether we remember who we are while it does.
The purpose of spiritual practice isn't to become someone who remains calm while the world shakes.
It's to become someone who naturally runs toward the rubble carrying Love.
Because every day someone near us is buried beneath fear.
Someone is trapped by grief.
Someone is overwhelmed by shame.
Someone is crushed beneath guilt.
Someone feels buried beneath loneliness.
Every one of us has the opportunity to become a first responder.
Every one of us can extend a hand.
Offer a kind word.
Listen without judgment.
Forgive.
Encourage.
Love.
Offer a meal.
Perhaps that is what it truly means to awaken.
Not escaping the dream...
But becoming the light within it.
The world may continue to shake.
Relationships may shake.
Bodies may shake.
Economies may shake.
Even our carefully constructed identities may shake.
But Heaven never does.
And when we remember that...
we stop asking,
"How do I protect myself?"
and begin asking,
"How can I be truly helpful?"
That question changes everything.
Lainaism
"The ego protects its foundation by convincing us never to question it.
Love begins the moment we do."
Perhaps, the greatest miracle isn't that the earth stops shaking.
Perhaps it's that, in the middle of all the shaking...
Love remembers how to find itself through us.

What others say:
Janie beautifully captures the heart of this week's message.
Life's earthquakes don't simply shake the world around us—they reveal the foundation we've been standing on. As we gently question the ego's thought system rather than defend it, we discover something extraordinary: the foundation of fear begins to crumble, making room for the peace of God that has always been there.
"Laina is the Holy Spirit's answer to my prayer for help in understanding how ACIM can be applied in my life. I am so grateful for the year you have all walked beside me. The ego's thought system remains intact by not questioning it. With Laina's gentle, loving guidance, I am learning to question everything and get to the core beliefs that make up the ego's foundation. Peace, Joy, and Freedom are the by-products of a willingness to go deeper and to look with a loving sister at where we might have been afraid to look alone. So grateful for you, Laina, and the family I have found here! Much Love to you all!" ~Janie
